"Field"

1947
[approx. 15” h x 17” w]
Tempera on canvas over board.

NOTE:  The texture of this painting has resulted from Cox building layers of colour, and then ‘moving’ the top layers to reveal the colours underneath.  Also, further texture is achieved by scratching the seeded dandelion head into the surface.  It is particularly successful in creating a luminous image by utilizing a light outline around the dark trees.  The atmosphere, if not the style, is reminiscent of the visionary landscapes of Samuel Palmer.
