Note: Cox executed several similar paintings of nude female figures with various creatures. A wash drawing (perhaps a
preliminary study) titled ‘Nude with a Terrapin’ was photocopied and used as the frontispiece to the Gogmagog Photocopy Library volume, A SNOOK AT CRISIS (written mid-1950s, published 1985). ‘Nude with a Terrapin’ also exists as a tempera
painting, very similar to ‘Figure with Butterflies’.
